State of JavaScript 2024 developer survey
Published
It can be hard to get good information about what technologies folks are using for modern web development. There is a high incentive for companies to make a lot of noise about their projects and make it seem like everyone is using them.
The State of JavaScript is an annual survey that's open right now and I hope you will take it.
Nine years of State of JS
This is the ninth year of the survey, and data is available going back to 2016. Yes, it's not perfect. It's biased towards people who like to take surveys. It might not be statistically significant. But it's a valuable data point that lets us know what people really use, really like, and really dislike about modern web development.
Look at past data to plan your future projects
All of the data for previous years is available and has a great frontend to let you explore. This can be super helpful if you're a library developer and wondering where there might be a hole in the market.
For example, last year, 90.1% of people had reported using webpack
, and over half reported a negative sentiment with it. Something clearly indispensable to modern web development, but widely hated. Sounds like a great opportunity for Vite, Parcel, and other modern bundlers, right?
Figure out what you should study next
Look at the frontend frameworks data for 2023. Notice Angular falling in popularity while Svelte rises, and React continues to dominate. This kind of insight can be ultra valuable in tight job markets where you want your skills to be fresh.
Bottom line
Please give up some of your time to help us all get some good data about what tech is used, loved, and hated in 2024. Your survey results will let us all make better decisions in the new year. Take the State of JS 2024 survey.
